Data Exchanges Explored Though Web Service & Programming

September 16, 2015

Olivet Institute of Technology, OIT, looks to equip students with the latest information and data exchanges, concepts, as well as successful practices of web services this quarter in its "Advanced Web Service & Programming" course offering.

Students will learn how to design, build and test RESTful services using lightweight Ruby on Rails. They are expected to obtain practical experiences by hand-on projects and tutorials by the end of the course.

Experienced software engineer, Michael C. Huang, will instruct the course at Olivet University’s San Francisco site . The course will focus on RESRful instead of traditional complex SOAP-based web services. Representational State Transfer (REST) is a software architecture style for building scalable web services. It has gained widespread acceptance across the Web as a simpler alternative to SOAP-WSDL-based web services.

"I am looking forward to meeting students and excited to join this course," said OIT Assistant Instructor Ray Lei . "Michael is an experienced developer and a passionate teacher. I believe he will fill the gap between academic study and in-fields trainings.”

Michael C. Huang received his MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California and has years of working experience as software engineer at IBM, Rovi and Moka 5.
