Olivet University Students Join Regional Effort at Pathfinder Ranch Earth Day Celebration

April 20, 2026

Students from Olivet University joined community members from Idyllwild, Hemet, Anza, and surrounding mountain areas for a dynamic Earth Day event hosted by Pathfinder Ranch in Mountain Center, California. The gathering provided Olivet students with an opportunity to actively support environmental outreach while engaging with local families through service and education.

As part of Pathfinder Ranch’s first annual Earth Day celebration, Olivet University volunteers contributed across a wide range of activities designed to promote environmental awareness and outdoor recreation. Students assisted with event coordination, guided visitors along hiking trails, supported recreational activities, and helped facilitate canoeing at Lied Lake.

The event also offered meaningful educational experiences, aligning with Olivet University’s emphasis on service and community engagement. Students participated in sessions such as an interactive presentation by Nicolas Rajen of the Intertribal Agriculture Council, which explored Native American culture, indigenous science, and environmental stewardship.

Additional programming included snake conservation education led by the Hemet Moms Adventure Club, where attendees learned about snake conservation, safety, and respect for native species.

Olivet University students further engaged with community partners and local organizations, including the Bee Doctor and the Mountain Communities Fire Safety Council, gaining insight into pollinator health and wildfire preparedness, key issues impacting the region.

The event also highlighted youth creativity through a student art gallery featuring work from local schools, including Olivet Academy, reinforcing the importance of cultural expression alongside environmental education.

Through their involvement, Olivet University students demonstrated a strong commitment to service, collaboration, and environmental stewardship. Their participation reflects the university’s ongoing mission to foster meaningful connections between students and the communities they serve, while encouraging hands-on learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
