The Olivet College of Journalism recently launched a program for students working in the broadcasting field. One of the side projects includes supporting the university's student newsletter, The Olive Leaf, with online video reporting.
Traditionally, the Olive Leaf is distributed every other Friday to student email accounts. The newsletter features upcoming events as well as other campus information. OCJ began working with writers to integrate video news and broadcasts, which gives the newsletter a new dimension along with experience for upcoming video journalists.
The videos would include coverage of the story with interviews and edited clips that provides more engagement as well as entertainment. OCJ students would also cover community news related to the school and gain firsthand experience with equipment and techniques.
