Jubilee Dean Keeps Christmas Theater Arts Tradition

December 14, 2012

Each December Dr. Merril Smoak, Dean of the Jubilee College of Music, directs four performances of a Christmas Dessert Theater.  The Christmas Dessert Theater is an annual event held at the Trinity church in Livermore, California where the Jubilee Dean has served as Associate Pastor of Music & Worship for the past 34 years.

"The purpose of this event is to share the true meaning of Christmas with friends, neighbors, and co-workers who would not normally come to one of our Sunday morning worship services," states Dr. Smoak.  "The production features beautifully decorated tables, delicious desserts, and majestic Christmas music."

This year's Dessert Theater features the dramatic Christmas musical SEARCHING FOR THE KING arranged and orchestrated by David T. Clydesdale.  The musical is presented by a Trinity's 50 voice choir, worship band, drama ministry, and technical team.  The story line of the musical is about two journeys separated by two millennia:  a US soldier returning home from the war in Iraq and a young apprentice following the Magi to Bethlehem.

Jubilee College of Music and other Olivet students plan to join in on the annual tradition this Christmas.
