OTCS Dean addressed on "Why Evangelicals Differ" in Hong Kong

January 29, 2013

Hosted by Olivet University's Alumni Committee in Hong Kong, a 3-day special convention has kicked off on January 28 with Dean of the Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS) Dr. Donald Tinder invited as the keynote speaker.

As the church in China has grown rapidly over the past decade, Chinese Christian ministers are eager to equip themselves with solid theological knowledge, effective pastoral skills and kingdom vision. While the study of theology within the Chinese context has sprouted and continued to mature, the OTCS Dean Dr. Donald Tinder addressed on the theme "Why Evangelicals Differ", emphasizing on the unity of evangelicals in Christ.

Although there are differences among evangelical denominations, Dr. Tinder encouraged Christian ministers not to give up calling for agreement because it is the teaching of bible to be of one mind. At the same time, all churches should be ready to be changed and respectfully being used in helping others change.

The convention has gathered about 20 Olivet University’s current students and alumni, whom are actively involved in campus ministries, church planting and Christian media organizations. Some of them came from different provinces of mainland China.

During Dr. Tinder's visit in Hong Kong, he was also introduced to leaders of several local seminaries. They held meaningful discussions on theological education and church practices.

The convention will continue tomorrow. Dr. Tinder is scheduled to depart for the United States immediately after the convention concludes on January 30.
