Olivet's Accounting Students Get Hands-On For Finals

March 20, 2014

Olivet College of Business wrapped up its Managerial Accounting II class with final exam in the format of case study questions.

The final exam featured cases from five corporations by providing some of their financial information to students.  Students are then asked to come up with solutions to problems faced by companies. For some cases students are also required to produce, opportunity cost, break even analysis, budget balance sheet, income statements, and performance report.

The exam was team based as students researched together and held discussions to develop and present their best solution.

"Frankly speaking, Managerial Accounting II is very challenging to me and the final exam questions are difficult," said Yuyu Cheng, said an Olivet University’s College of Business student.

"However, after studying very hard for a quarter I believe this course will definitely help with the future business venture I plan to launch after I graduate and return to my native country. Numbers can tell us many things. With solid Managerial Accounting knowledge you can evaluate your company's performance scientifically and then make sound financial decisions accordingly," said Cheng.

The Winter Managerial Accounting course was taught by Olivet College of Business faculty Linda Lim who has extensive working experience in the field of corporate accounting for Fortune 500 companies and is also a Certified Public Account.
