The Olivet School of Language and Education (OSLE) recently received approval from the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) to offer Olivet's Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program.
Since 2015, OSLE have received many prospective students who are interested in language education. Through multiple course offerings, the program prepares students for careers as professional English teachers.
The new TESOL program is not just limited to the introduction of different teaching theories but is focused on real-time teaching practicum in a classroom setting.
"It is exciting that our TESOL program received ABHE and BPPE approval," OSLE Dean Dr. Jasmine Park said. "We hope more students interested in teaching English will be equipped through this program."
After receiving approvals from both the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and ABHE, OSLE is preparing plans to launch next year.
Currently, OSLE offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in three different locations: Riverside main campus, San Francisco, and Dover New York site.
For the new quarter, OSLE plans to focus on ESL class design and hiring qualified faculty to meet students' needs at each respective location. Furthermore, faculty and staff from all three sites have scheduled professional development meetings each quarter to share their methodologies and experiences to facilitate mutual growth.
